I see Zoe's thingie now, it's hiding on her back for some reason. Such a happy fishie with the bird, hope that's not this universe's sentient species...

The question now is, why haven't we been shown Zoe's "ghost friend" yet.
On that note, Frog's looks like...a frog, maybe? Kiki's is...a jelly bean??

"Let out a scream of horror and death."
"Those sounds always remind me of my village."
Never visit Daiyu's village! That place sounds more horrible than the Dimension of Pain.
Poor bird, it cheerfully said Ohia and then it died. I have a feeling they will come to gravely regret these things, killing the bird and cutting the golden vines.
Poor Zoë always gets the short end of the spirit stick. Her soul doesn't show up to the ghosts, and now this - her avatar is barely visible. But it seems none of them are worried, so maybe it's just that it's really small but otherwise fine.

You have to be careful in alternate dimensions. You came assume the sentient life looks human. After all, consider the Caribs. This does not bode well. Working from home tomorrow! (Or, I guess, today, depending on your time zone).

Shall I understand this to mean that the smaller bird did not have an anima, as they didn't talk about it then? Screaming in pain isn't a sign of intelligence – it requires only the ability to make sounds and the ability to feel pain – but if some species have animas and others don't, then that surely means something. Shankraft's anima says "shhh". Can they talk after all? What is Gwynn's anima doing behind Riff? And why is Zoë's anima so shy? Zillatain wrote: Kiki's is...a jelly bean?? I just thought it looked like a bean. If I think of legumes and you think of candy, what does that say about us?

Not like they never met a talking animal before. Frog and kiki both have Animas. Worst case scenario, it was this dimension's kiki. ....and it has friends like Bunbun and Percy . How bad could that really be?

Also, good on ya, Shankraft! Way to show them all that nerdy skinny scientists can still throw a javelin with murderous accuracy!

Why do they have golden vine-wire tangled up on a stick in panel 4?

Do you store your fishing line in the lake? Or wound on a reel?

I also found it interesting that Dr. Shankraft's anima still looks mortified, even when he's happily saying yes to seconds... That contrast, combined with a wandering cat, makes me wonder if the animae have any measure of independence, or whether they're just acting out an apparent dominant feeling of the moment within the multiple feelings that we humans tend to have. It's going to be in the 70's here! :-) But it will start getting cold by the end of the week with highs only in the 60's. :-(

I wanted to say it could be an Id (ghost buddies) and Ego (person) distinction.... but I'm mixing up my psychology dudes. If Pete has already declared anima, then anyone who wants a spoiler may want to read about Jung's anima/animus anthropomorphisms. I'm too rusty and tired...
