Your forgetting something, objects in motion stay in motion unless acted by an other force. Realisticly that shuttle wouldn't show down, but this is a comic so who knows.
My assumption is that they're currently traveling roughly the same velocity, so if the shuttle engines stop, they will continue traveling at roughly the same velocity. If the shuttle engines do not stop, the massively larger thrust of the shuttle should leave the EVA guy behind really fast.
