Spirantz: I haven't used phpBB's admin features in ages, but I'm fairly confident that's not available out of the box, even these days. They'd need to hunt down an extension, and also make sure it isn't janky. Proboards can do that, plus a bunch of other stuff, but...to paraphrase a classic LotR meme: one does not merely migrate a phpBB forum to Proboards

I believe it is powered purely by narrative convenience: it always dies at a point Torg will definitely need it.

That would be more appropriately called narrative inconvenience :P

Sounds like some message board software should die out then.
Not easy or really necessary to replace, I know. Look at reddit.

I'm just tired of so much backward-ass technology these days when so much better stuff is out there. Things should be easier for non-computer geeks to use is all.

Oh well. That's a lot of time and effort. Can't afford everything. And I don't know much about hosting forums. They're a dying breed...

True.

Although in defense of lame markup code, WYSIWIG editors are a favorite way for hackers to inject malicious code onto a website. One needs to be extremely careful with its implementation.

I'd rather just gouge my eyes out. Not sure if that was your point.

Terrible, but popular regardless due to existing user base.
