Roger dives into the fray, grabbing at a pitchfork.

Roger: Fists: +2 Roll: +0 Total: +2
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +0 Total: +2


He manages to grab one peasant's pitchfork, but the man has a tight grip on it; one of the other peasants takes a swipe at Roger and he's forced to let go in order to dodge.

Nathan pulls out a baton and swings for the nearest peasants' knees:

Nathan: Weapons: +3 Roll: -1 Total: +2
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +1 Total: +3


A close stab by a pitchfork leaves Nathan jumping backwards, failing to connect.

Felix and Theresa go after the peasants with baseball bats:

Felix: Weapons: +1 Sidekick: +4 Roll: +0 Total: +5
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +1 Total: +3
First peasant: XXO


Both of them get in a couple of good *whack*s on the man's arms. The angle wasn't quite right to break them, but he's going to have some monstrous bruises tomorrow.

Perhaps it's due to the possible mind control, but this doesn't slow him down in the slightest.

Arkady falls back on the exorcism that's proven so effective up until now. Unfortunately, for once it doesn't seem particularly effective; there's no sense that there's anything there to exorcise.

Piper tries playing a lullaby:

Piper: Mysteries: +? Roll: +? Total: +7
Peasants: Resolve: +2 Roll: +0 Total: +2
Second peasant: Mental: XXX Minor consequence: Drowsy Moderate consequence: Sleepy


One of the peasants begins to slow down, almost stumbling over his own feet.

Sir Ulath moves in with his axe, striking with the flat of his blade:

Sir Ulath: Weapons: +4 Roll: -2 Total: +2
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +2 Total: +4


Unfortunately, all he manages to strike are a couple of pitchforks.

The peasants rally together and, as one, all pick on Felix:

Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +0 Total: +2
Felix: Weapons: +1 Sidekick: +4 Roll: -1 Total: +4


They stab and jab, but only one pitchfork comes close and Theresa bats that one away.

As it occurs to him that they need to start packing along body armor, Arkady tries to spot anyone who might be controlling the farmers. If he spots that worthy it might be time for his good friend the sergeant to get involved.

Roger goes back to the truck to find some kind of weapon and then returns to the fight. Trying to keep his back to Felixe's or Theresa's

Roger glances at the truck, but quickly realises that there isn't going to be a weapon in there that's going to work better than his bare hands. One thing about being shipped off to a military academy - you quickly figure out how to fight back.

Roger's Weapons skill is +0; his Fists skill is +2. He'd find it a good deal easier to punch someone that to hit them with a large wrench; and while there are some advantages to using Weapons (especially if you're fighting something with acidic skin) none of them really apply here. If you really want to grab a weapon you can, but for Roger in this situation it's a strict downgrade.

Roger: Fists: +2 Roll: -1 Supplemental action: -1 Total: +0
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +1 Total: +3
Supplemental action: Back to back with Felix: Both Felix and Roger gain +1 to their defense this round (and any round in which Roger continues this supplemental action)


Nate swipes away:

Nathan: Weapons: +3 Roll: +0 Total: +3
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: +0 Total: +2
First peasant, physical: XXX


Nate lands a solid bruise on the peasant that Felix hit earlier. Whatever's up with these guys, they seem to just ignore mere pain and bruising.

Felix and Theresa continue their assault:

Felix: Weapons: +1 Sidekick: +4 Roll: -3 Total: +2
Peasants: Weapons: +2 Roll: -2 Total: +0
First peasant, physical: XXX Minor consequence: Dazed Moderate consequence: Broken arm


With the first peasant distracted by Nate's baton, Theresa lands a solid hit to his head, dazing him for a moment. That's all the opening Felix needs to land a solid hit on his arm - the bone snaps, and he can see the arm bend where it shouldn't. The peasant doesn't even slow down his assault.

Arkady takes a good look around the area, trying to find whatever's controlling these farmers.

Arkady: Investigation: +2 Roll: +2 Total: +4
???: Stealth: ? Roll: ? Total: ?


The area around the road here is fairly flat. There's a few farms visible in the distance, but there's little to no cover close to the road; and aside from the militant peasants, there's no nearby traffic on the road. Whatever's controlling these men is either too well hidden to be spotted, or invisible, or not in the immediate vicinity.

Piper's lullaby continues:

Peasants: Resolve: +2 Roll: +1 Total: +3

One of the uninjured peasants collapses, snoring, and the next peasant's eyes begin to close.

Sir Ulath continues to play his part:

As Felix breaks the peasant's left arm. Sir Ulath breaks his right arm, and follows up with a blow from the flat of his axe that flings the man into one of his companions; the peasant collapses to the ground, unconscious and bleeding.

The remaining three peasants continue to jab at Felix; though now that there are only three of them left standing, it's easier to dodge their jabs:

Peasants: Weapons: +1 Roll: +1 Total: +2
Felix: Weapons: +1 Sidekick: +4 Back-to-back: +1 Roll: -1 Total: +5


Felix, Theresa, and Roger fend them off easily.

It should be obvious at this point that continuing to attack the Terrans is a losing proposition - odds are the peasants won't even be able to land a single hit before being taken out, one way or another. If they really wanted to hurt you, the only halfway sensible thing for them to do is flee and return another day. Yet they continue, relentlessly.

Peasants:
First peasant: ***Taken out*** unconscious and bleeding
Second peasant: ***Taken out*** unconscious and snoring
Third peasant: Mental: XXX Minor consequence: Drowsy
Fourth peasant, physical: XXO
Fifth peasant: Untouched, so far

Taking advantage of the peasants' reduced numbers, Roger presses his attack:

Nathan steps back and takes a good look around, wary for other threats...

Nate: Alertness: +4 Roll: -2 Total: +2

Nathan spots nothing untoward. The trucks look alright.

Felix and Theresa's assault doesn't diminish.

Felix: Weapons: +1 Sidekick: +4 Roll: -1 Total: +4
Peasants: Weapons: +1 Roll: +0 Total: +1
Fourth peasant, physical: XXX Minor consequence: Dazed Moderate consequence: Stunned


A couple of thwacks to the nearest peasant's head leave him seeing stars.

Arkady opens his senses to the world around him...

Mysteries: +4 Roll: -1

...Piper is a good deal taller seen like this - or at least her shadow is, the real article being just beyond the corner of Arkady's eye, he'd have to turn his head to see her - taller but still humanoid, in the middle of a blueish glow. Her music stretched out to one of the uninjured peasants, carrying with it sleep, drowsiness, rest... and sorrow. The peasants themselves are different - blank, empty shells, hollow on the inside.

This is nothing like what was done to Theresa; that was a sticky, miasmic spell that suppressed the person beneath it, like a sticky tar that bogged her down, with her own personality trapped under it. This - aside from Piper's lullaby, there's little or no magic that can be detected on them at all. Nor is there anything else - no underlying personality at all. There's nothing there to struggle. Nothing to fight back.

Nothing but the faintest insectile buzzing on the very edge of hearing...


Piper takes a step back behind Arkady, but continues her lullaby.

Piper: Mysteries: +? Roll: +? Tag aspect: Drowsy: +2 Total: +10
Peasants: Resolve: +1 Roll: +0 Total: +1

Two more peasants collapse to Piper's tune.

Sir Ulath takes advantage of Felix' stunned opponent:

Fourth peasant, physical: XXX Minor consequence: Dazed Moderate consequence: Stunned Major consequence: Cracked skull Taken out: Unconcious


He spins around, slamming the final peasant in the head with the flat of his axe. There's the very nasty sound of something cracking, and the last man goes down.

Peasants:
First peasant: ***Taken out*** unconscious and bleeding
Second peasant: ***Taken out*** unconscious and snoring
Third peasant: ***Taken out*** unconscious and snoring
Fourth peasant, physical: ***Taken out*** unconscious and bleeding
Fifth peasant: ***Taken out*** unconscious and snoring


Sir Ulath warily watches the pile of downed peasants, but none of them make any move; two are fairly badly injured, but all five appear to still be breathing.

Arkady looks at the peasants. "There is something wrong with them. They seem to have no emotions at all, no personality. All I am feeling from them is a sense of insects, a buzzing of some kind. It is like they are man shaped blood bees."

Nate snaps his baton away, snaps on a pair of surgical gloves, and snaps to work examining one of the sleeping peasants.
