The inscrutable manservant leads Buck to a room. It's easy to see why it's called the Bamboo Room - the walls are covered in bamboo.

The room can be best described as 'opulent'. There is a bed from a doll's house, with what appears to be gold edging. There are a couple of what appear at first to be framed postage stamps on the wall, but a close look will show that these are, in fact, actual paintings of landscapes.

There is a bedside cabinet. And not one made out of matchboxes, either.

There also appears to be an en-suite bathroom. It's obvious that no expense has been spared in furnishing this room.

"Your room, sir." says Jeeves, opening the door and standing back. "Is there anything Sir will require this evening, apart from Sir's jetpack?"

"I should be fine, thank you."

"Very well, sir. Might I enquire, sir, what Sir's jetpack takes for fuel?"

"Just about anything that burns, thanks to a variable carburator, But I prefer ethanol, when I can get it."

"Very well, sir." Jeeves bows again, and points out a piece of string hanging from the ceiling. "Should Sir require anything during the night, Sir should tug sharply upon this bellpull."

With a final bow, Jeeves closes the door and leaves Buck alone in the Bamboo Room.

Buck does the guest thing, and awkwardly looks around the suite, opens drawers, doors, and examines random knickknacks. He also has a look at the bamboo covered walls.

The knickknacks have two things in common; they are all tasteless and very expensive. The bamboo walls appear to be ordinary walls covered in bamboo. The drawers are empty.

There is a cupboard. There is nothing in it but empty hangers.

Buck hangs up his flying gear, and puts his laser in a bedside drawer. It's generally considered a bad idea to put a firearm under one's pillow. Too easy for accidents to happen. The longknife, still in it's sheath, goes under the pillow. After Jeeves has brought the jetpack, Buck will place it in front of the door, to make opening it difficult and noisy enough to wake him up. Then he will sleep.

Jeeves arrives after a short interval with the jetpack, and explains that he had taken the liberty of topping up the fuel tank with ethanol. Buck leaves the jetpack in front of the door, and is soon dreaming about people coming from the future to shout incomprehensible things at him.

"Zzzzzzz, *Snerk*, zzzzzz, No spoon...Zzzzzz, Cake a lie. Zzzzzz *mumble*, end of world. Zzzzzzz. Microsoft/Apple merger. Zzzzz."

Avery finishes her spritzer, sits in the dark thinking for a long time, and finally falls asleep in the armchair.
