The box is heavier than water, and is resting on the bottom (it's a big box and the water is shallow). How it got there is a mystery. The net is simply placed over it to prevent the fish escaping. It has a big hold in, so the only thing preventing the escape of the fish is the Shells.

Okay (she says, trying to fire up the two neurons in her brain capable of handling logic), it seems to me that the most pressing issue is saving the fish from the cats. I can only think of three ways to do it: disable the shell system, scare/coerce/convince the fish to swim out before the cats arrive, or distract/dissuade the cats from checking the trap.
I don't know how we could do the first one quickly enough, but what about the other two?

As for the first one, I was thinking of just cutting the control cables, and jamming a long enough piece of drift wood to function as a lever into the last shell in line and then rotate the whole mess.
Yeah, I think I'll do that.
