Upgrades!

As part of a bunch of fixes, upgrades, updates and random changes going on at Sluggy throughout the rest of 2008, we have updated the Sluggy.net forums to the latest and greatest version of the forum software. This will allow us among other things to start integrating defenders accounts with the boards.

It also fixes some security issues that existed with the old version.

We are working on updating the look and feel of the boards back to the Sluggy.net design, but please bear with us. Leave any comments on the board update below.

EDIT: ATTENTION FOLKS: If you're stunned by the board being flipped around and want things back on the left that are now on the right, go into the User Control Panel, hit the Board Preferences, and change your board style to 'subsilver2'. It's not exactly the same as the old one, but it's a lot closer, and puts things back where you're expecting them. /EDIT

Sorry rit, I'm answering your question from my thread below here because this reply is working, while the other reply is bugged at the moment.

Functionality:

What I'd really like to see is a die roller for us RPGers, but I'm not sure there's one compatible with phpBB3 yet.

I like that the report function is there (or at least easier to see), and some of the moderator things I'm seeing on GRPG are pretty nice too.

Most of my other suggestions amount to "put it back the way it was", so that's probably not very helpful. :D A big one I'd like to see done first is turning off post counts, though; I know from experience this can lead to painful forum degradation as people try to bump their post numbers and make silly threads based on them (like "Woo, finally reached 5000!")

I'll see what I can do about post counts.

I'm really impressed w/ what I've seen of the mod tools so far.

What exactly is a dice roller supposed to do? If you give me a spec, I'll look at putting one together. I have to learn the APIs anyway for defender integration.

*ahem*
Woooooo most posts! Skitz wins! Skitz wins!

Erm... a dice roller would be good. Just something that would generate some random numbers between either one and four, six, eight, twelve, twenty and one hundred and return them in a way that it would be obvious that they weren't posted. Like in a format or something that can't be entered manually. Some players bitch that they have no garentee that the GM is actually rolling a die or using Random.org or whatev.

I'm looking forward to checking out the mod-type-powers that we have over in GRPG as well.

The only time I ever made a thread for a post-party was when I reached zero again after climbing up from negative 20,000 posts. I thought it was a worthy accomplishment. Lot better than the pithy 12,000 and change I'm credited with now.

Wow, when you said you'd take a crack at it today it wasn't registering in my head that you would actually change it today. Now I have to learn how to use this thing.

ZOMG! My post count is way too low! Must post more! Must post more!

I remember the last time we had real post counts. I was like 30 posts away from my 1000 post party before they were reset and post parties were no more. :kzk: Shame I'm now a responsible mod.

Will we be able to change the skins in our profiles?
Personally I don't this this new look is as readable as the old look. Posts sorta blend into each other and into the background. A simple change of colors might help.

Whoa! New look! I think I like it, but it'll take a bit of getting used to. Looks like the messiness with the "new messages" flags has been fixed. Great!

A dice roller is a program that simulates rolling n d-sided dice (3d6, 2d10, etc.). I have no idea how that would be integrated into phpBB.

(Oops, looks like BBCodes aren't enabled yet. Or is there a setting I'm not familiar with? I don't recall having to turn anything on in the previous version. Hm, just checked the User Control Panel, and BBCode is supposed to be on by default. Ah well, software teething. :-)

@Krail: Go into the User Control Panel, there's a "subsilver" theme that looks a bit better than the default "prosilver," at least to my eye.

We may still have to tweak some settings so if there's something you can't do just post it here. Unless you can't post at all then I guess you'll have to email us.

Ooh, I love the little "Online" banners. Very cool. I miss the old color scheme, though.

This strange new world frightens me and I'm not sure I want anything to do with it....

Update: Subsilver2 board style is significantly better for my tastes. Maybe I can live here.

I'd like to see the avatars and poster info back on the left. A dice roller would also be cool.
